These FREE self-guided hikes will begin at the trees by the picnic tables north of the American Gothic House Center and are available from dawn to dusk. A new one will be posted every two weeks, May 23rd through September 2nd. They are open to the public. Since the Center is managed by the Wapello County Conservation Department, these hikes are wildlife or conservation-oriented. Download a hike “passport” for kids ages 6-18 from either of our websites, Facebook event, or stop into the Center and pick one up. Journal 3 things you learned from 3 different 2025 hikes at the American Gothic House plus complete 2 independent activities May- August 2025 to earn an American Gothic House Center lanyard! All details and requirements for this activity are on the passport.
Also ask to check out an educational backpack from the Center’s gift shop May 23rd through September 2nd to help with the journey! Topics are bugs, birds, and plants.
