Wapello County Emergency Management Agency

Eldon, IA- Preliminary damage report from the 7.20.25 2 am storm: We completed our assessment around 4 pm today. The crop and tree damage indicates the storm generated a mircoburst. NWS advised us the storm weakend in the Eldon area about the 2 am timeframe and was collapsing which likely created the burst. They will review radar data on Monday. Keep in mind Eldon is a very low elevation and there is almost a 2 mile gap between the radar beam and the ground. This is why the Eldon Fire & Rescue Department, Eldon IA is in constant contact with our office before, during and after storms. The good news is, most of the trees that were damaged either already has issues such as hollow cores or old age, or the tree was a soft wood type such as a maple. We did not find any residence that had roof damage that would affect their living space. For the ongoing recovery- the tree dump site is open. If you don’t have means to get debris there, simply place along the street. The city staff will pick it up later in the week. There are tarps and metal rakes at City Hall for anyone who needs. There are also clean up kits if anyone took on water in a basement. Kudos to EVERYONE in Eldon who did what neighbors do and rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Special shout out to the Public Works crew of City of Eldon, Iowa – City Government, the fire departments of Eldon Fire & Rescue Department, Eldon IA , Wapello Rural Fire and the Alliant Energy crews. TY to Henry County EMA for the assist with damage assessment.

Eldon- your resiliency is strong!!
